A Woman's Perspective on Building a Business - Part 2

By: Kendra Davenport

"Why Can't a Woman Be more like a man" was a song from the 1964 Movie My fair Lady. (See the clip at: http://www.womenbusinessconnection.com/businessideas.htm) Although today many a woman would disagree with the chauvinistic attitude of Mr. Higgins, it does shed some light on the fact that women are different and think differently from men in regard to business.

One area women are different in business; they tend to treat creative projects and new businesses like their children: they become emotionally attached. They fall in love with their ideas and with making them happen. They will sacrifice extreme growth to retain sole ownership because they define themselves through their projects. They respond to what feels right, as opposed to what looks right on paper.

Have you ever met someone or had a salesperson try to sell you something and a little voice in your head says "this person or idea sounds nice, but I'm not sure about going any further with this?" That voice is your intuition speaking. Intuition and creativity are essential in a woman starting a business. Some women don't define themselves as artist because they are not painting or designing buildings or fashion. An artist can be someone who originates ideas and or an innovator with a broad imagination. Anyone can imagine. Anyone can be creative.

A woman has to dream a concept and imagine it first, before she goes after it. This is where intuition comes into play. Listening to this inner voice can determine how you will express yourself to the fullest extent possible and create the concept you want to explore. Learning to listen and translate your creativity and intuition into something real is where the fun and your business start's.

Creativity is innate. It is so important for a woman to have a creative outlet otherwise she will become frustrated, depressed and may engage in addictive behaviors such as overeating, endless TV viewing alcohol or drug abuse. Some form of creative expression albeit in business or a hobby leads to self fulfillment for a woman.

Part of the creative process is generating ideas. This may mean coming up with multiple ideas all at once. Musing on several ideas at once will get you where you want o go, sometimes quickly other times a little longer, but you'll get there. Feel comfortable with your female thought process, to others our thoughts might seem unexpected, but to us our thought process makes perfect sense and we are comfortable with how we make a women business connection. Nothing wrong with that, women are great at multitasking!) A female entrepreneur may have many ideas: to reach her ultimate goal she might have to go through several iterations of her idea, like trying on different dresses for a big party until you fine on that just right for you!

Pay attention to the multiple internal voices that literally converse with on another, creating opportunities and unleashing imaginative thinking within the mind.
