A Brief Guide to Fife

Fife is one of the Jewel’s in the crown of Scottish counties. Known locally as the Kingdom of Fife, because of its history of Kings and Queens, it is fast becoming one of the most popular areas in Scotland to buy or rent property. The area is home to some stunning country side, including one of the finest coastlines in Scotland.

Property prices across Scotland are fairing better in the current recession than their counterparts in England. Though prices fell in the last quarter of 2008 the decline was less severe than other part of the UK. Throughout the UK prices fell 15.9% while in Scotland prices fell by 8.1%. Fife was one of the best performing markets in Scotland. Prices there fell by 5% from the previous quarter and just 6% annually. The mood in Scotland is confidant, much more so than other areas of the UK, that the housing market will soon recover and will once again see growth.

The eastern coastline proving particularly popular, known as "East Neuk" the area has many pretty quite fishing villages of crow-stepped gabled house huddled around stone harbours. The area is also well known for its fine restaurants, many of which serve fresh locally caught fish brought into harbours just a stones throw from the restaurants. It’s easy then to see why the area has become so popular, especially with professionals in Edinburgh, for buying and renting homes here. The East Neuk is made up of villages such as Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans and Elie.

The area is great for commuters with plenty of travel links to Edinburgh. The good links mean that it is possible to have your job in the city but still have the benefit of living in the country side. And with so much to see and do when ever you are not working you can take advantage of what Fife has to offer. Fife is well known for its golf with many fine courses found throughout the regione. Even if golf is not your thing there is still much to see and do from taking invigorating country walks to making sand castles on the beach and so much more besides its clear Fife has so much going for it.
