By: Ben Binding-27115

The Peak District is the perfect place for any lover of the great outdoors, with walking, mountain biking, climbing and caving among the hot sports and activities on offer throughout the National Park.

Here is a list of 5 of the best activities that you can get up to on your trip to the Peak District

Walking
With a vast and varied landscape that the Peak District has to offer, including moorland, hilltops, deep valleys and dales, there will be plenty of walks to suite everyone’s tastes. 1,600 miles of foot paths and rights of way provide walking routes for all abilities. The majority of these routes are very well sigh posted, or waymarked, to make sure you know exactly where you are going. Popular long-distance walks include the Tissington, High Peak and Monsal Trails, as well as the Peak District’s most famous trail: the Pennine Way.

Rock climbing
The Peak Districts stunning landscape provides thousands of routes on hundreds of crags for great climbing, so it’s easy to see why the peak district is so popular with climbers from all over the world. It is also an excellent place in which to start learning to climb, with good courses available at venues in Stanage and the Roaches.

Caving
The Peak District is blessed with an abundance of natural caves making it a true haven for cavers of all levels. Remnants of the industrial revolution, mines, have provided more caving opportunities along side the caves and potholes. The most popular showcave open to the general public is the massive Peak Cavern in Castleton.

Mountain biking
Mountain biking has become increasingly popular across the Peak District. At some point you will come across a group of fellow mountain bikers especially at some of the biking hotspots like Hope Valley and Upper Derwent Valley. Unfortunately mountain bikes have been band from most of the footpaths due to the erosion they cause but luckily there are still plenty of bridle paths providing great routes to ride.

Fishing
There is a huge choice as to where to fish in the Peak District. The Wye, the Dove, the Lathkill and the Derwent rivers are all great for fly fishing. If you prefer some course fishing the lower reaches of the Derwent and the Trent offer great opportunities. There are also plenty of lakes, canals and gravel pits that are worth trying out.
