5 Simple ways you can improve a background check for peace of mind about friends and family

By: Clive Hornsby

A background check reveals things we normally wouldn’t see on the surface. The surface would be the faces of the people being interviewed for a new job, or their curricula vitae. It goes without saying that people come to interviews looking their best and with résumés that say nothing of the past they are trying to hide. The check does not guarantee everything, but it does help your firm play a little safer.

Falsified records are a dime a dozen. You could get them on the corner of just some street or even off of the Internet for a small fee. Curiously, the same Internet provides means of corroborating or contradicting these claims. If not, you could contact the police to help you out, or you could use a PI. Whatever the case, you don’t want to hire someone without some background checking.

The present and the future are one thing, the past is something else altogether. Due to torrid events in their past, many ex-criminals desire to go straight, but few people would give them the chance. So they lie on their applications and hope nobody finds out. Unfortunately, background checks eventually become their undoing.

One must be careful not to discriminate, whatever findings one uncovers from an employee’s past. Effort must be made to judge the person in question on the merits of their character and actions in the present, not some mistake they made ten years ago, or the fact that they grew up in a Hispanic household. The law forbids it, and the worker has the right to litigate should this occur.

Online background check is one form of investigation that is fast becoming popular. It is as good as the traditional means of investigation. Infact, it is better because one can access information without much waste of time.

With the record of over 11% of applicants having criminal history, it is expedient for employers to carry out background check. This procedure helps to screen out those with questionable records while those with clear records are retained. Some employers carryout background check frequently while others conduct it occasionally.

Background check agencies use different means in investigating about people. They usually require the driving license or state security number of individuals. They equally make inquiries about peoples’ state of origin and criminal history.

Some people steal other people’s identities and use them to secure jobs. For a while it does work: the applications might endure the most fleeting looks. Under the microscope of a detailed background check, though, the attempt would fall flat and such a person would be arrested. Too bad many of them are smart enough to move along before this happens.
